ImageThe decision of the Macedonian government to obligatorily apply the Macedonian language in the elementary schools for the Albanian pupils has been criticized by the vice prime minister and minister of foreign affairs, Ilir Meta. During a conference in Tirana together with his homologue Milloshoski, Meta said that similar decisions should be taken with the approval of the Albanian political parties and communities in Macedonia.

While the reasoning of the Macedonian head of diplomacy, Antonio Milloshoski was that this decision gives the Albanian community the possibility to learn the official language having the equal possibilities in their representation in the multiethnic country of Macedonia.

“I wanted to say that Macedonia is a liberal country regarding the teaching of the mother tongue. In our education centers the pupils are free to learn different languages. In our contacts with OSCE we have proposed to add the official language of the country. This is also for the good of the citizens, to learn the language of the country where they are living. We know that in some cases even the educational projects maybe influenced by political debates”, said Milloshoski by adding that Macedonia and Albania are neighbor and friend countries. We have the same challenges and aspirations.

“It is important that these kind of decisions, because of the susceptibility between the two countries, should be taken in consultation and dialogue with the community. In this case in understanding and dialogue with the Albanian political forces and OSCE that has always been engaged in this and other cases. In Balkans we should learn more each other languages because even Mr. Milloshoski could speak better Albanian since he was born in Tetova”, said Meta.

During the meeting of two ministers of foreign affairs Meta and Milloshoski, they were both enthusiastic for the relation between the two counties, because Tirana supports the association of Skopje in NATO and Macedonia incites the visas liberalization for Albania.
