The government of Greece decided to take measures against the deficit for a sum of 4.8 million of euros. A part of this sum will come fro the lowering of the expenses and the other part from the rising of the taxes. The Prime Minister Papandreu declared that the country is near the bankruptcy and he compared the situation with a “war situation”.
The plan of the government predicts the lowering of the salaries of the civil workers, the lowering with 30% for their bonuses, the stop of the pensions rising for 2010 and the rising of the Value Added Tax (VAT) with 2%.
With this decision the Greek government is responding to the pressure of the EU that asked to Greece to take measures to improve the financial situation. These measures were not welcomed before and the syndicates went on strike, now it is awaited their reaction after these new measures.
