A serious tragedy happened in Peze Helmes village. Two brothers have found death while they were digging a well, not too far from their house, and two other persons have been seriously wounded. The incident happened near 03:30 p.m., when Hajri and Perparim Pulaj, respectively 34 and 37 years old, have not been able to come out of the well because they were asphyxiated by the gas explosion.

Only few weeks divide Albania from the decision for visa liberalization. This guarantee comes from the Portugal’s Secretary of State for European Affairs Pedro Lourtie, who had a meeting with Albanian Deputy Foreign Minister Edit Harxhi on Thursday. Soon Albania will complete all the technical requirements for visa liberalization and the European Commission (EU) will soon take a decision on this matter.

Astrit Patozi and Gramoz Ruçi avoided every kind of comment on the topics that were discussed at the 10:30 a.m. meeting. The only things to be made public were the hour of the first parliamentary session for the new parliamentary season and the great number of draft-laws, which need 84 votes to be adopted. The Chairmen’s Conference did not reach any other conclusion.

In its first meeting for the new parliamentary season, the Chairmen’s Conference of the Parliamentary Groups approved the three-week calendar of work. In this meeting, it was decided that the parliamentary session will be held on Monday, September 6, at 12:00 a.m.

Soon public and private universities will apply a new financing model. Now, the budget that will be given to them by the government will have as its main focus the students, through scholarships or loans. In the first phase of this reform, which means, in the brainstorming phase, Prime Minister Sali Berisha called the leaders of the universities to cooperate, and he added that they should focus their attention in increasing quality. As for autonomy, Berisha said nothing will change because it is a legal right.

According to the socialists, the best persons to address the Venice Commission are the Speaker of parliament Jozefina Topalli or President of Albania Bamir Topi. Deputy Chairman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group Vasilika Hysi said that addressing the Constitutional Court would only drag the situation.

Former Head of the Constitutional Court Rustem Gjata declared that the Venice Commission has been overestimated. Gjata said that lack of trust in the Constitutional Court will astonish even the international experts, by risking not taking into consideration the request for the investigation of ballot papers.

The crossing near the Technological School, which is one of the points that links Tirana with other southern cities, is expected to have free movement of vehicles thanks to a project of the municipality of Tirana. At the end of his mandate, Head of European Union’s (EU) delegation in Albania, Ambassador Helmut Lohan, talked about his four-year stay in Tirana in an exclusive interview for Eni Vasili’s program, “Studio e Hapur”. He also gave several messages to Albanian politicians for dialogue at a time when the stunt of the June 2009 elections has not yet been solved. Lohan chose “Studio e Hapur” program in Alsat television to tell his impressions on Albania and Albanians; he talked about the experience of working in a country, which aspires to become a member of the EU; he talked about his relations with Albanian politicians and about the difficult political challenges.
